The HOMAG AG company has been working on innovative solutions for the woodworking industry since 1960. The company was founded by Eugen Hornberger and Gerhard Schuler and called ‘Hornberger Maschinenbaugesellschaft OHG’. Right from the start, the company’s focus was on the development of highly specialised machines for specific areas of application. Their self-constructed edge banding machine was a success from the outset. In contrast to machines from their competitors, HOMAG’s products set new standards in precision, quality and efficiency thanks to an innovative hot-cold technique. Due to its continuing success and a selection of acquisitions/mergers, HOMAG was sufficiently established by the year 2007 to operate as an AG, or listed company.

HOMAG has long concentrated on the various challenges involved in the edging of wooden materials. As a result, a selection of highly innovative machines was produced by 1990, which took material edging to a whole new level. HOMAG was also able to offer soft- and post-forming machines for very irregularly-shaped edges on panels, which ensured a continually high level of quality. Since then, HOMAG’s product range for woodworking machinery has grown considerably. The driving force of inventiveness has always led the way. HOMAG is still today at the forefront of entirely new techniques, such as 3D printing, 3D scanning and universal processing centres.
Their used woodworking machinery is also widely popular and buyers can be easily found thanks to their high technological standards.

HOMAG also takes an innovative lead in the production of saws. Their main focus is on throughfeed saws and panel saws. These machines have very little in common with traditional table and belt saws and are designed with profitability and maximum efficiency in mind. HOMAG saws are ideal for serial production. Speed, low material use, occupational safety and energy-efficiency are the core requirements HOMAG takes into consideration when developing their saws.

HOMAG throughfeed saws

FSL 324 throughfeed saw

Nowadays, HOMAG primarily focuses on throughfeed saws. These enable large semi-finished wooden panels to be quickly and efficiently cut. HOMAG opens up a wide range of applications. In addition to glulam timber, solid wood panels and wood chipboards, HOMAG throughfeed saws also enable a range of MDF materials and very soft wooden panels to be processed. Non-ferrous metals can also be processed on HOMAG saws to a certain extent.

HOMAG offers two model ranges for their throughfeed saws: the FSL series includes seven types of machine for longitudinal cutting. The FSQ series is able to cut cross-sections in addition to basic longitudinal cutting, thereby enabling panels of any dimensions to be cut down to size. HOMAG supplies a selection of three different types of FSQ throughfeed saws.

HOMAG panel saws

HOMAG panel saws are marketed under the name HOLZMA. The models in the panel saw, or panel-dividing range include HKL, HPL, HPM, HPP, and the newly developed HOLZMA HPS. In total, customers have a selection of 22 different machines from which to choose. They are the ideal solutions for efficient, high-quality cuts for any scale of production and for any semi-finished product. In addition, HOLZMA provides innovative concepts for handling cutting scrap, as well as automatic labelling and storage by robots. The HOLZMA PLASTIC device created by HOMAG features the ideal properties for processing plastics.

While panel saws are fairly simple machines in technical terms, HOMAG’s double-end tenoners and edgebanders clearly demonstrate the company’s innovative capabilities. The strengths of these machine lie in quickly, efficiently and precisely milling any edge geometry and applying edging.

HOMAG double-end tenoners

HOMAG offers 11 edge-processing machines. This machinery division only focuses on double-end tenoners through to its FPR 262 model.

HOMAG FPL Series
The FPL series features entry-level machines for those new to this field of technology. These can be used to produce the entire range of precisely-formed panel materials, such as laminates and tongue and groove boards.

HOMAG FPR Series
The FPR Series offers expanded functionality and enables product types to be switched between quickly and thus makes it possible to manufacture a wide range of products.

HOMAG edge banding machines

HOMAG edge banding machines are supplied as single-, double-sided, or post-forming plants.

Single-sided edgebanders
Single-sided edgebanders are an affordable way to get started in serial production and produce fully assembled board materials. When combined with a turning station, single-sided edgebanders can also operate as double-sided machines. HOMAG offers 8 machines in its ‘Ambition’ range. Special format products can be produced using the ‘Hightech’, ‘Profiline’ and ‘K600’ models. ‘Batch size 1’ is a special highlight and has been designed for individually gluing single pieces.

HOMAG Finishing Device FA21 HOMAG double-sided edgebanders KAL

Double-sided edge banding machines
The double-sided edge banding machine is quicker and can be acquired as a K520 or K600, which have been known for their innovation and high quality for many years.

Postforming machines
The manufacturer supplies the HOMAG VFL 310 post-forming machine for the coating of highly resilient chipboards. It produces panels and applies edging in one uninterrupted work process. If a hard-wearing covering is chosen, customers will end up with a panel featuring a seamless surface. It is ideal for humid environments or places where there are strict demands on hygiene.

HOMAG used edgebanders

There are many types of plants for formatting and processing edges on the market of used machinery. The following series of used HOMAG edgebanders can be frequently found:

HOMAG KFL double-sided edge banding machines
Double-sided edgebanders are ideal for quickly producing large quantities of serial products. They coat both sides of a panel and only need to be turned 90° once in order to process the reverse side. To facilitate this, HOMAG offers a range of turning stations and placement robots.

HOMAG KFR edge banding machines
The HOMAG KFR is a single-sided machine for sizing and edge banding. It is specially designed for fold-gluing rebated doors.

HOMAG KAL edge banding machines
The HOMAG KAL Series features professional, single-sided edge banding machines. When combined with a turning station, these plants can be used to efficiently process any rebate widths and profiles. They enable high performance for very little cost.

HOMAG KRO (KLO) edge banding machines
These heavy-duty edgebanders were produced between 1988 and 2000 under the name KLO and are now sold as KRO machines. These are highly functional edgebanders for panels up to 65 millimetres.

By developing its CNC machining centres, the HOMAG range thus covers the entire market in which their customers are active. The smallest entry-level machines for producing individual units are marketed under the names BHX, BMG, Vantage and Venture. In total, the entry-level machine range encompasses 15 different types of HOMAG machines. This also includes special solutions to expand CNC processing centres and use them for special tasks: the ABD 050/060 Optimat machine has been designed for CNC drilling and dowel insertion.

HOMAG CNC machining centres

HOMAG groups all its CNC processing centres developed for the manufacture of large series under ‘high performance machines’. There is a total of 15 different types within this range. The key machines amongst all high-performance CNC processing centres are the HOMAG BMG 500/600 and HOMAG BMG 600/700. Once fitted with special additional modules, these key machines can be optimised ex-works for a range of specialist activities. HOMAG offers solutions for vehicle equipment, stairways, doors and furniture, as well as products for processing plastics.

Designed to produce doors and frames, the ‘HOMAG B600/700 - Door production’ is an ideal choice. In addition to the core module of this 5-axis CNC processing centre, this machine also features an automatic handling system, integrated edge banding unit, double rebate modules, and milling spindles for individually designed series. The ‘HOMAG BMG 600/700 Door production’ enables nut and groove production, automatic rounding of door leaves, milling of locks and strap holes, decorative grooves and the milling of frame connections. With an integrated collision monitoring system, wastage is avoided and occupational safety is increased. The software provided optimises production speed and ensures maximum planning security.

HOMAG has produced countless types of woodworking machines. Many series are no longer in production and have been replaced by newer models. For example, HOMAG no longer produces any manual vertical panel saws. HOMAG has always looked to future markets to ensure they stay at least one step ahead of their competitors in terms of technology. This has led to a wide and varied selection of HOMAG woodworking machines on the second-hand market. The range encompasses small table-top devices, robust saws of all types, and a variety of complete processing centres. The HOMAG BAZ CNC processing centres are especially popular. These predecessors to the current VENTURE Series enable comprehensive processing of chipboards up to sizes of 6 x 1.5 m².
