DEMAG: The traditional brand for cranes and hoists

The origins of the DEMAG company stretch back to 1819 when the Harkort & Co. mechanical workshop was founded in Wetter, Germany. This is where the first crane was produced in 1840, which formed the foundation for the company’s development into Germany’s largest crane builder, which was heralded by their merger with Duisburger Maschinenbau AG and Benrather Maschinenwerke GmbH in the early 20th century to form DEMAG. In 1908, a floating crane – then the world’s largest – was built in Belfast for Harland & Wolff, which was used in the construction of the Titanic, amongst other projects. In 1973, the Dusseldorf-based Mannesmann Group acquired the now diversified company, which then traded under the name Mannesmann DEMAG AG. After the liquidation of Mannesmann, DEMAG came into the hands of the American Terex corporation via Siemens and the financial investor KKR in 2011, which continued to operate the successful DEMAG brand.

The current DEMAG crane product range is separated into process cranes and related components, universal cranes, and the KBK light crane system. These divisions are home to the entire spectrum of universal and specialist crane technology, ranging from slewing cranes (pillar- and wall-mounted), through to DEMAG crane systems with crane track, such as the single and double-girder overhead traveling cranes.

DEMAG process cranes

The DEMAG process cranes offered by the manufacturer feature specialist lifting technology that can be seamlessly introduced into your production processes. Tailor-made, fully automated process cranes can increase the performance of your production plants and increase production efficiency. The DEMAG load-handling attachments play a key role in achieving these benefits and must be particularly well-adapted to the load they must bear, even if the process is to be performed automatically. DEMAG process cranes are optimised in terms of process flow and are ideal in many areas, such as the automobile industry, aeronautical engineering, foundries, steel trading, paper manufacturing/processing, waste disposal and recycling operations, as well as automated container handling in freight carriers’ warehouse management systems.

DEMAG universal cranes

DEMAG universal cranes are a flexible solution for general applications and can be customized in line with requirements. DEMAG overhead cranes are a popular choice and are available in a wide range of versions. The range of DEMAG indoor cranes features welded box-section girders, rollers and V-type girders to complement ceiling-mounted cranes, which require no supports and facilitate optimal space utilisation. DEMAG crane sets can be used to create your own individualized crane technology. Thanks to its wide range of potential applications, the DEMAG overhead crane is a highly beneficial lifting and transportation solution even when second-hand.

DEMAG KBK light crane system

The DEMAG KBK light crane system is a second family of crane equipment which comprises a range of modular components. These include extendable steel and aluminium profiles in a variety of load classes using which a DEMAG portal crane (or indoor/slewing jib) can be designed in accordance with the client’s requirements. DEMAG KBK also enables individual monorail systems to be created featuring curves, straight sections and turntables. The portal crane in the DEMAG KBK range is also a mobile transport solution, which can be used independently of plant/workshop equipment.

DEMAG hoist units

DEMAG hoists are responsible for handling loads weighing up to 235 t by DEMAG cranes and expand the range of applications for lifting technology to cover even small loads. This includes DEMAG chain hoists, DEMAG trolleys, MPW winches, rope hoists and everything else needed for lifting loads up to 100 t in any field of application.
DEMAG chain hoists with a load capacity of between 250 kg to 1000 kg or compact hoists are ideal solutions even for small-scale lifting and transportation tasks. The DEMAG electrical chain hoist is the simplest and easiest to operate. DEMAG trolleys can be used to complement DEMAG chain or rope hoists and create a crane system. All the DEMAG chain hoist replacement parts needed for care and maintenance can be obtained in original quality.

DEMAG drive technology

DEMAG’s range of drive technology offers complete drive solutions as well as components for lifting technology. These include electrical motors and gear motors, wheel systems, frequency inverters, crane trolleys, complete drive solutions using a modular system, as well as battery-powered transfer cars.

DEMAG components

The tried and tested DEMAG components act as building blocks for crane systems and other machinery. They include compact magnets, conductor lines, power supply lines, as well as control switches and radio controls for the operation of DEMAG crane systems.
