AMADA is a Japanese company founded shortly after the Second World War. Its original field of business was developing and manufacturing sheet-metal processing machinery for the metalworking field. The favourable climate of the post-war period enabled AMADA to grow particularly quickly – international expansion continued unabated and their first US subsidiary was founded by 1971. Two further subsidiary companies were established in England in 1972, followed by one in Germany in 1973.

Here in Europe, however, there were already a number of strong competitors in the field of metalworking machinery, which meant AMADA was second choice for many years. But thanks to the traditional Japanese focus on maximum quality, innovation and low prices, AMADA over time managed to bring numerous machines onto the market in face of the strong domestic competition.

AMADA is regarded as a comprehensive supplier of everything needed for the machining of sheet metal. Their range of stationary production machines for the sheet-metal industry is exceedingly wide: AMADA offers thirteen product areas each featuring a large selection of series and models. AMADA’s vast range ensures the company can supply everything that could be required to create an entire production line. The fields for which AMADA produces machines are:

AMADA press brake technology

AMADA produces a range of interesting press brakes used to manually or automatically bend sheet metal. AMADA has a total of nine series of press brakes in its range:

AMADA ABS-R
The ABS-R is not a press brake; it is a selection of positioning robots which supply workpieces to a press brake. These axis robots ensure precise material feeding down to the nearest millimetre and facilitate the rapid, two-sided machining of sheet metal. There are two robots to choose between capable of usage loads of 50 to 165 kilogrammes.

AMADA EG-6013 AR
The models in this series feature fast robots fitted with 6 axes, a press and two conveyor belts to enable especially rapid production.

AMADA HF-Serie
This series lets operators take their first step into the world of modern bending technology. It is based on the successful manual HFE range produced by AMADA but now comes with comprehensive software support. Those looking for highly accurate bends with consistent quality will be well-served even by the smallest AMADA press brake system. The smallest series in this range is the HFE 3i, which includes a selection of eight models with a beam length of 2090 - 4280 millimetres and pressing force of 500 - 220 kN.

The mid-range HFE II Series is designed for maximum energy efficiency and can significantly reduce a company’s production costs.

The HFE T2 is AMADA’s large-scale manual press brake for individual items and it features an outstanding price-performance ratio.

AMADA HG Serie
The HG Series includes four model ranges: HG ATC, HG, HG1003-ARS and HG1303 Rm. These press brakes are primarily designed for manual and automatic feeding for large-scale serial production. They are also capable of being combined with a feeding robot. A total of 11 different models can be found in the HG Series.

AMADA sawing technology

AMADA’s saw division is the responsibility of AMADA MACHINE TOOLS EUROPE in Neuss, Germany. It covers block saws with the following technical features:

Large band saws

Large band saws account for six of the series. These AMADA sawing machines provide heavy industry with all the tools it needs: these machines make it possible to accurately saw solid blocks, U- and H-profiles, and pipes with any wall thickness down to the nearest millimetre.

Automatic band saw machines

AMADA supplies manual and automatic band saws with Pulse cutting technology. These small- to mid-sized machines are capable of everything that is needed by workshops and semi-finished product preparation. The innovative Pulse cutting technology is a milestone in production efficiency. This patented separating process enables bi-metallic panels to be used where saw blades were once only able to work on hard metal.

Automatic vertical band saws

Vertical saw machines cut blocks cross-wise, not lengthwise and are designed to ensure consistent parallelism and highly accurate dimensions. There are three models of AMADA machines within this range.

Hard metal circular saws

Whenever a band saw reaches its limits, a hard metal circular saw is the answer. AMADA produces five models within this line machinery.

AMADA grinding technology

Despite all the highly precise technology available on today’s market for machinery builders, sawing remains a very crude machining method. Fortunately, AMADA produces three different grinding machines, each with their own method of technology, to ensure semi-finished products or workpieces can be precisely formed down to a thousandth of a millimetre. AMADA’s TOGU EUN model is an innovative and efficient solution for finishing press and punch tools. Precision grinding optimises production accuracy and increases tool life by preventing burr formation on the product.

Optical profile grinders are used for precisely grinding serially-produced parts. With extensive sensors and automatic solutions, AMADA’s three DV-1, DV-7M and GLS-5T machines are ideal for ensuring consistent quality in any size of batch and are very simple to operate.

The surface and profile grinding machines made by AMADA are used for linear grinding across a wide grinding area. AMADA produces eight series of surface/profile grinders.

AMADA laser technology

Laser technology at AMADA is primarily put to use in laser cutting, which is highly precise and capable of producing any type of contour with minimal waste. What’s more, laser cutting means there is no wear and tear on tools. AMADA produces nine series of laser-cutting machines. AMADA lasers are used to cut and engrave sheets and profiles. CNC lasers are also available for highly-automated machining.

AMADA measuring technology

The measuring technology manufactured by AMADA enables highly accurate component scanning, which leads to significant savings when reverse engineering equipment in contrast to manually measuring each component. AMADA’s measuring machines are also high-performers when it comes to the size of components they can process: products up to 2 metres in length can be scanned into the two VCQ machines with maximum precision. The information gathered is then automatically transferred into a CAD programme.

AMADA milling technology

AMADA uses two approaches within its milling technology division: double-head milling machines and plate milling machines, to ensure optimal solutions for small- and mid-scale applications.

The double-headed milling machines are available in four series. The smallest model can machine components featuring dimensions of 150 x 150 millimetres. The higher-level models are each capable of larger dimensions up to a total of 1000 x 1000 millimetres.

The PMH-1308 plate mill is equipped with a 500-millimetre wide milling head, which makes it suitable for particularly wide milling paths.

AMADA press machines

AMADA’s SDE series is the company’s contribution to the world of press technology. These hydraulic AMADA presses with single- or double drives can be operated manually or automatically. AMADA’s five series can also be equipped to produce punch hole sizes of 500 x 200 up to 900 x 280 millimetres.

AMADA punching technology

In contrast to their conventional pressing machines, AMADA’s punching machine division is primarily geared towards the machining of large-sized metal sheets. AMADA's seven series cover punching areas of 1270 x 1280 up to 1270 x 1270 millimetres. In addition to the basic machining of large metal sheets, AMADA also provides extensive programming options for unmanned operation and powerful punching forces to work on thick or very tough materials. However, AMADA’s five series of combination punch-laser devices are the highest performance.

AMADA shearing technology

AMADA took a more conventional path when it came to developing their bench shearing machines and sheet shearing machines. The company produces three types of manual and semi-automatic devices and two fully-automated solutions to cover the entire field of cross-cutting coil sheets using the AMADA guillotine method.

AMADA welding technology

AMADA’s welding division has been built upon their experience in the field of laser technology. The company provides three series of laser-welding devices, which are characterised by high precision and minimal wear and tear. Their three series are suitable for both prototype construction and one-off items, as well as any scale of serial production where consistent quality is crucial.

Despite strong competition from prestigious Japanese machinery builders, AMADA has made a name for itself here in Europe. The widespread use of their affordable but high-performance machines has led to an immense selection of used AMADA machines on the second-hand market. It is possible to find almost their entire range of products in a used condition.

In general, their simple saws and complex/demanding laser machines are a great alternative to the established German brands and can be used to achieve wholly comparable results.
