As a variant of shearing, notching is related to punching. However, while the cutting line of a punching machine is always closed, the notching machine with its open cutting line always cuts the outer edges of the workpiece, which is then further processed through welding or forming. Notching machines are used for the precise cutting of angles on mild steel or alloy.
